‘Queen of lies’ depicts a woman, lying on her side looking straight at the viewer, her reflection repeated at the card's top. At a closer look, the reflection is not at all the same. It is her, but in the raw, unfiltered, unabashed, like a rough diamond, flaws and all. The format reminds one of the Queen in a deck of playing cards and echoes this hierarchical system that is also present in today’s world.
The painting explores the complexity in presenting our self in the world; the deep need to connect as we are; in vulnerability and wholeness, and yet the urge to protect our truths, smooth over our flaws and not quite show what is really beneath the surface.
