‘Proserpine’

60 x 70cm / 24 x 28i

Oil on canvas

2023

The story of Proserpine or Persephone as she is also known, is the Greek myth of her kidnapping by Hades to be his bride, and her condemnation for eternity to the underworld after eating a single seed of the pomegranate fruit.

This modern rendition of the myth explores the common anxiety sparked by impossible societal norms and expectations, where we, split between our need for acceptance and need for pleasure ask; if I indulge this once, will all fall?

The model's Pre-Raphaelite beauty inspired the style of this painting, bridged into today’s aesthetic by the neck tattoo of Bernini’s sculpture telling the same story, and the graffiti on the wall.

Certificate of Authenticity included.

World wide shipping and full insurance during shipping is included courtesy of the studio.

Please allow 3-4 weeks for me to prepare your painting for delivery.
